Welcome to the Point Pleasant Recreation Preschool!
Some thoughts on:

ATTENDANCE

For optimal Learning and socializaion to occur, regular and punctual attendance is critical. The first fifteen minutes of the preschool day are designed to help the child transition smoothly into the school session. “Table Time” allows the children to sit quietly and adjust while manipulating small blocks or playdoh, coloring, or a variety of other engaging activities the teacher has planned. It also allows some “talk time” for the more energetic children who have a lot to say!

FOSTERING GOOD HABITS

Young children especially benefit greatly from having structure and routine in their lives.
Some suggestions:
*Establish a regular bedtime to assure maximum rest
*Provide a healthy breakfast each morning
*Read and play games t5ogether more ~ watch television less
*Talk to your child and listen and respond

HOMEWORK

In the Kinderschool program the children are given a standing weekly assignment. to find or draw a picture of something that begins with the Letter of the week for their homework books and to practice printing the letter. It is intended to reinforce the lesson taught in school. Some children will fill the entire page and some will print two letters. Some children will draw five pictures and others will search for that one special picture to cut out of a magazine. Either effort is appropriate and should be encouraged. Praise your child for a job well done! More specific information will come home with the books the first week of October.

SUCCESSFUL PARENT-TEACHER COMMUNICATION

Communication with your child’s teacher is very important. We’re on the same team and we need to work together to ensure a positive successful school experience for your child. If at any time you have a question about your child, please don’t hesitate to ask the teacher. You may request that the teacher phone you or you may wish to schedule a conference.

SCHOOL POLICIES

At registration, each parent is given a packet containing school policies. Please read it over and familiarize yourself with this important information about payment, communicable diseases, discipline, releasing children, etc. Included in this packet is the Emergency Procedure Plan. Again, if you have any questions, please ask your child’s teacher.

HEALTH AND EMERGENCY FORMS

Your child’s immunization and emergency forms should be on hand on or before the first day of school. Please use the immunization form provided by the school. You may attach your doctor’s form but your doctor must sign the school form. Please be sure your emergency form is accurate and complete with available adults who you are authorizing to care for your child in the event of an emergency.

SPECIAL NEEDS

Included in this packet is a letter distributed by the Point Pleasant School District. If at any time you have concerns about your child’s development, do not hesitate to discuss it with your child’d teacher, or to contact the Child Study Team and have your questions answered, or request an evaluation.

WHAT DOES MY CHILD NEED FOR PRESCHOOL?

* Send a snack to school in a lunch box with your child’s name on it.
* Backpacks are not necessary.
* Label all jackets, coats, and sweaters.
* Have your child wear sneakers for safer playtime.
* Preschool art can and should be messy, so dress your child appropriately!

BATHROOM PROCEDURES

Children may use the bathroom whenever they need to and we stress the importance of good hygiene, hand washing, etc. We do ask that you encourage your child to use the bathroom before leaving home, a good habit no matter where you are going! This is also a good time to encourage independence as the children are expected to take care of their own needs when using the bathroom in school.
