Borough of Point Pleasant – Mayor Robert A. Sabosik would like to alert all high school juniors and seniors in Point Pleasant Borough who are planning to continue their education post high school about this year’s scholarship opportunity through the New Jersey League of Municipalities. The annual Louis Bay 2nd Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition is a collaboration between New Jersey Mayors and the New Jersey league of Municipalities.
According to Mayor Sabosik, “I’ve participated in this contest every year I have been Mayor and each year, I am amazed at the essays the students in this community submit. One year, we had one of the entries make it to the final round and won the contest standing out above all the other entries from across the State. We have exceptionally bright young students in Point Pleasant and that gives me great hope for the future.”
Entries will be required to write a 500 word essay on the subject of “What my municipal government does best.” These entries will be judged solely on originality, appropriateness, proper grammar and punctuation along with clarity of the theme.
If a student wishes to submit an entry, they can download an application packet by clicking here: Mayor’s Scholarship Entry Packet Info .
This opportunity is open to all high school juniors and seniors residing in the Borough of Point Pleasant regardless of attendance at a public or private high school. The Mayor’s Office will review the essays and a semi-finalist will be selected and forwarded to the NJ League of Municipalities Scholarship Committee. That committee will select 15 finalists and 3 winners. The winners will each receive a $1,000.00 scholarship award and have their essay published in a future issue of the NJ League of Municipalities Magazine.
All entries must be returned to Mayor Sabosik’s office by Friday March 17, 2023. Completed entries should be mailed to: Mayor Sabosik, Attn: NJ League Scholarship, 2233 Bridge Avenue, Point Pleasant NJ, 08742.
