We are living through a unique moment in history as we deal with the potential impact of the Novel Coronavirus known as COVID – 19.  While we do not know and cannot predict when and if the Coronavirus will impact the Borough of Point Pleasant, I feel it is prudent to make sure we have a heightened sense of awareness in our community and to do our best to pre-empt any potential impact.  My administration is constantly in contact with County and State Officials and will take appropriate measures should the need to do so presents itself.  It is our goal to make sure the essential services that the Borough provides to its residents continues and to make appropriate adjustments as needed to protect both our employees and our residents.

At the time of this message, the only Borough operations that are impacted are the temporary suspension of our senior services recreation programs purely as a precautionary measure and our municipal court sessions are also cancelled through the 5th of April.  All other recreation programs will continue for the time being including preschool.  Should the school district close, our preschool and recreation programs will mirror those actions.  Our Department of Public Works has altered their normal schedules and routines to make sure our Borough municipal facilities are cleaned and sanitized above and beyond what they normally are.  For all other changes to Borough services, residents are encouraged to regularly check our website at www.ptboro.com for updates.  On our website, there will also be links and information on the virus including common sense practices you and your families should engage in.  Regarding information about Point Borough schools, parents should contact the school district for all school related information.

For now, the Borough Council and I cannot emphasize enough the need for residents to follow practices cited by the CDC to help protect you, your family and the rest of the public.  These include but are not limited to:

  • Covering your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or into your sleeve – not your hands
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
    • Wash hands often with soap and water – for at least 20 seconds – especially before eating or after going to the bathroom, blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing
    • Stay home when sick and keep your children home when they are sick. Do not return to work or send your children to school unless they have been fever-free without medication for at least 24 hours
    • Avoid people who are sick
    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects

The Borough Council and I in conjunction with our Police, First Responders, County and State Officials will continue to take necessary precautions to keep Borough employees and residents safe. This serious moment in our history will pass, but it is our duty to remain calm and vigilant and to help ourselves and our fellow neighbors.  It is our sense of community that makes The Boro so special and will ensure we successfully navigate the challenges that we face.
