Borough of Point Pleasant – Capital money was budgeted last year for the Bay Avenue Fishing Pier Project, which was ultimately awarded to R. Kremer & Son Marine Contractors, LLC. through the bidding process.  In the middle of October 2016, this long awaited and much needed project started and now the work to one of the Borough’s most popular recreational sites has reached completion.

According to Mayor Sabosik, “The Bay Avenue Fishing Pier had been in disrepair for a number of years after Superstorm Sandy.  What was once a popular fishing and crabbing site became so unsafe, we actually had to close it off to the public.”

Council President John Wisniewski went on to say “It was important to get this area back in use.  We wanted to make this place safe and enjoyable for our residents and we’ve done that.”  Councilwoman Snyder echoed those sentiments by adding that “As a community where so many of our recreational activities are water related, this project was a long time coming.  Residents have been using this area for generations and we are happy to make sure future generations will still be able to do so.”

Council President Wisniewski also mentioned that the Bay Avenue Boat Ramp portion of the area, directly adjacent to the Bay Avenue Fishing Pier, is slated to have construction begin in the Fall of 2017.  “We were awarded an iBoat Grant in the amount of $110,000.00 to go towards the construction of a new boat ramp and deck.  With this grant and capital money we’ve budgeted, we will be going out to bid sometime this year for that project.”

Mayor Sabosik expressed his gratitude toward the dedication of the Borough Council for their commitment in improving our recreational sites and infrastructure throughout the Borough.  “We are vigorously going after grant money and budgeting appropriately to upgrade sites like the fishing pier and boat ramp along with updating our parks and improving our roadways and infrastructure.  We have an amazing community and our goal is to make sure it stays that way.”
