Borough of Point Pleasant – Through the combined efforts of the Mayor and Council along with the Borough’s Police Department, the New Jersey Department of Transportation has put crosswalks at vital areas on the Route 88 corridor.

Mayor Sabosik stated that “We have been working on these crosswalks for two years now and it’s finally paid off. Our Police Department has been in constant contact with the NJ Department of Transportation and did a tremendous job of not letting this fall through the cracks.”

According to Borough Administrator Frank Pannucci “Crosswalks have been added on Route 88 at the intersections of Maxson Avenue, Maplewood Avenue, Benedict Street, Curtis Avenue and Marshall Drive/ Northstream Parkway and the appropriate signage are soon to follow. The State will also be improving the crosswalks at Route 88 and Rue by making them compliant with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices which is a nationwide standard used by engineers when designing any type of traffic control devices on roadways. Basically there are now crosswalks at the Skatepark, Fins, Point Creamery and by Ocean Road School.” Mr. Pannucci also added that “Mayor Sabosik and the Council did a great job staying in constant contact with our State representatives to make sure this was accomplished. Being that it is a State highway, the Borough on our own couldn’t put the crosswalks in. Mayor Sabosik and the Council had to get the State to do this. That coupled with our amazing Police Department staying on top of it made this a reality. A true team effort and a great accomplishment for the residents of Point Pleasant Borough.”

According to Mayor Sabosik, “This administration has been working hard to improve the safety of residents throughout the Boro, this is another leap forward in protecting our community. These areas have high foot traffic with children and adults alike and are part of the overall vision we have in making Point Pleasant safer.” Council President Borowsky echoed those sentiments by adding that “Not only have we managed to get the State of New Jersey to add these crosswalks in, we have also gotten a commitment from Ocean County to repave Beaver Dam Road and Bridge Avenue this year. The County will also be renovating the cross walks on those two roads and the Borough will be installing curbing and sidewalks where possible where there currently are none.” Councilwoman DePaola, who chairs the Public Safety Committee, added that “It’s an exciting time, any chance you can not only improve infrastructure but also make our community safer is a win. This was a great team effort between our administration and Police Department in getting this done.”
