The Point Pleasant Police Explorer Post Program is available for youth interested in learning about and becoming active in Law Enforcement. Explorers need to be residents of Point Pleasant between the ages of 13 to 18 years in order to participate.

The program provides career orientation experience, leadership opportunities and community service activities. Explorers will be able to participate in classroom and field training opportunities.

The Post meets on a monthly basis at Point Pleasant Police Headquarters and is most active in the warmer months, when there are many outdoor activities occurring within the community. The Post is called upon to assist in activities such as: 5k races, car shows, parades, and park festivals. These events usually have large crowds that require more monitoring. The Police Explorers will provide assistance to a lost child, utilize basic first aid, or simply enable an out of town guest to find their way when lost.

These activities help members to learn vital team building skills, experience leadership as youth community members, and allow them to socially network with key stakeholders within their community. After being educated on the policies and procedures Youth

Explorers are permitted to participate in the “Ride-Along Program.” This aspect of the Post provides a realistic patrol experience for the member. Some of the prior police explorers have become Police Officers themselves or involved in other aspects of Law

Enforcement within the community. The Explorers Post membership has grown within the last few years and has become a huge asset within the Point Pleasant community.

Interested candidates may apply at Point Pleasant Police Department or speak with a Point Pleasant Police Explorer Advisor to learn more information about this opportunity.
