Borough of Point Pleasant – Mayor Sabosik stated that “As of today, February 24th, I have received from the New Jersey Department of Transportation a status report with final plans about the Route 13 Bridge (Loveland town / Bridge Avenue) closure.  According to State officials, they plan to have both lanes open in both directions on or about March 1st.  Leading up to this point, having started on January 9th the State has installed and subsequently removed jacking towers at both the east and west abutments of the bridge.  They have tightened and replaced supporting cables since then and have reported all tensioning work has been completed.  Currently, the contractor is performing final cleaning and greasing of the lift cables and sheaves with drawbridge indexing testing and adjustments also having been completed.  Strain gauge testing has been performed and final counterweight adjustments for bridge balancing will be completed in the next week along with the removal of equipment.

State officials have notified us that minor concrete work and paving need to be done in the future due to minor damage from their equipment.  When the state is prepared to do this work, they will close only one lane in each direction to accomplish this or come back in the off season.  They will give local officials advanced notice of when they will return to do said work.  In the meantime, they have relayed that the bridge will be fully operational with both lanes of traffic open starting on or about March 1st as the recent blizzard has pushed their final testing off track by a few days.

We thank the State Department of Transportation for working as quickly as they can on this necessary project and we thank all of the residents of Point Borough and our surrounding communities for their patience over the last two months as the State undertook this work.”
